Nelson Sponsors another Enviromental event. A scholarship was awarded to Shannon Fernandez for demonstrating environmental initiatives (Posted April,2007)
Bell/Chairman’s Breakfast on the Environment
Once again, Nelson Aggregate Co. is pleased to be a sponsor of the Bell/Chairman’s Breakfast on the Environment which was held on Friday, April 20, 2007 at Rattlesnake Point Golf Club in Milton.
Now in its fourth year, the Bell / Chairman’s Breakfast On The Environment is an annual event, that brings together the corporate and community sectors for the purposes of raising awareness and sparking dialogue about the environment. The Roundtable’s main goal is to engage our youth in recognizing and valuing, the legacy of our environment and support the pursuit of environmental initiatives. This is accomplished by awards for students and student groups for demonstrating environmental initiatives, as well as by bringing in engaging speakers to discuss the world, the environment and the difference that one person can make.
This year, Nelson Aggregate Co. was pleased to sponsor a scholarship that was awarded to Shannon Fernandez. Shannon will be entering post secondary education to study media, with her ultimate goal being to make documentaries that discuss environmental messages. Good Luck, Shannon.
The speaker at this year’s event was Jeff Macinnis. Mr. Macinnis was a member of the Crazy Canucks downhill ski team, has competed in the Eco-Challenge, has made the overland trip from London, England to the UN headquarters in New York, New York and was a member of the two man team that sailed through the North West Passage, which to this day, he and his partner are the only people to have ever done. Mr. Macinnis spoke to the audience about setting goals and how to go about reaching them. He spoke very highly of the students in the audience and expressed how impressive it is that students are taking such initiatives to help the environment as best as they can.
We would like to thank Regional Chair – Gary Carr for his continued support of this project, Bell Canada and TD/Friends of the Environment for being title sponsors and all of those that sponsored an award and/or purchased a table for the event.
