Frigid Waters Make For a Good Burlington Fire Department Training Exercise
Once again this year, the Burlington Fire Department came into the Nelson quarry late in January to practice their cold water rescue
skills. The ice-covered reservoir in the southeast corner of the quarry provides an ideal area to take a plunge in the cold water.
You get cold just watching them! We know that its important that the fire fighters not only refresh their skills in a classroom, but that they have an actual facility where they can experience the frigid waters first hand. Our hats are off to them for their tireless work in ensuring the safety of the citizens of Burlington.
Water from the reservoir has also been used in recent years to douse fires that had started on properties in the local neighbourhood. Also of note, the company’s Orillia Quarry is used on a regular basis for training exercises by the Ontario Provincial Police. Nelson Aggregate is always pleased to help whenever we can.
